The title is a very good suggestion to the use you can make of this brilliant music. 'The Melody at Night, with you' is an excellent album, a real pleasure to listen to. I was attracted by all the positive reviews on that one, and i wasn't disappointed. I didn't know Keith Jarrett before that album, and I have to admit that I felt in love with the smooth & brilliant piano. No hesitations on this album if you like (and even if you don't). smooth piano jazz.
It will hurt your ears.and no.there is nothing wrong with my particular cd player. Its why I ran to buy this cd. If you really want to see how great Jarrett is.just go to YouTube and see his LIVE rendition of Porgy.it's one of the greatest performances I have seen or heard in my life. I have high end tube equipment and professional speakers.and in fact own a wonderful Steinway myself.so I know quality.and I know the shame that such glorious music and composition should have been done on a piano this poor. What a shocking disappointment. The piano he used on the album is shockingly poor. I'm sorry Keith.but you are listed as the engineer on the album and Cavelight Studios appears to be YOUR outfit. Your wife, you, and the public,.deserved to have your greatness memorialized better than this rabid disappointment.
This album, for me, is quite irresistible; I can very well imagine jazz fans who would never agree about an album fawning over the shear beauty of this CD. Jazz standards often motivate great players to reach their biggest creative peaks and, I believe, this is a fine example of that truth. On some other CDs I've heard Jarrett playing with more energy, but I'm not sure anyone, including him, can play more subtly than on this particular album.Since others have admirably described the restrained virtuosity of "The Melody at Night, With You", I'll stop and just recommend it to jazz fans of different persuasions.
you could do dozens of standards, just like this, and they would be wildly successful. There is nothing wrong with emphasizing a beautiful melody as it is written, nothing wrong with keeping the jazz phrasing minimal, but effective. It was pretty much perfect. The moron on iTunes who did the review of the album gave it a negative spin. This CD. Jarrett's work, and wanted to hear his solo work. I sat on a plane last night looking out the window at a western sky at sunset that was about as lovely as I've seen, listening to this album. Sit back down at your home studio piano, and start recording. he doesn't seem to know where to go with it, and he loses you in the process.
If you know anything about solo piano- its the LEFT HAND. I have tried to like Bill Evan's solo album "Alone", but i can't do it. listen to what he does with the LEFT HAND. Please ignore him, hopefully he's found something in life more constructive to do. Give people an MP3 library to pick and choose from, you should do ALL the standards- in the style of this wonderful CD.I downloaded this CD off iTunes a couple nights ago, as I have recently developed an interest in Mr. these are 5-6 minute versions of great songs, beautifully arranged and performed perfectly.
wasn't sophisticated enough for him. If you like piano music; thoughtful, peaceful, introspective playing.you will love this cd. The music is very understandable, especially for folks, like me, who enjoy jazz stylings but don't worship at its altar of endless, loosely structured, improvisational orgies. it is wonderful, and it ain't easy either.
Listening to this album will take you back to the places you where you were listening to or to the moments, or to that feelings, or the person you were with. It's like magic, or even like drugs. I own many of his albums, but I have to say, this is my best. Beautiful album.
